Arizona set to rename Homolovi Park at request of Hopi Tribe

The
Arizona State Parks Board is set to rename the
Homolovi
Ruins State Park at the request of the
Hopi Tribe.
The board will meet tomorrow to drop the word "ruins" from the name of the park.
Most people favor the change, a spokesperson said.
The vote comes a day before the park officially reopens to the public. The state shut it down due to budget cuts but the tribe came up with $175,000 to keep it running for another year.
"These sites are still part of our ongoing history as Hopi people," Leigh Kuwanwisiwma, the director of the tribe's cultural preservation office, told the Associated Press. "So people consider them to be spiritually alive."
